If you were one of the 16.4 million viewers who watched Monday, September 30th’s “Big Bang Theory” on CBS, you may have noticed a familiar logo. Pechanga Resort & Casino was featured prominently on the show during a scene in which character Howard Wolowitz “throws” out the first pitch of an Angels Baseball game. From the various camera angles, TV viewers see the giant red scoreboard with the Pechanga Resort & Casino logo, as well as the back outfield wall with Pechanga’s name and logo.
“We’ve had a longstanding partnership with Angels Baseball and a positive placement like appearing on ‘The Big Bang Theory’ that comes as a result of that partnership is amazing beyond belief,” says Lee Torres, Vice President of Marketing for Pechanga Resort & Casino.
The story line goes that Wolowitz is invited to throw out the first pitch at the baseball game because the stadium is hosting a Space Day promotion for fans and Wolowitz is an astronaut. Far from an athlete and not sure about whether he could hit home plate, Wolowitz made light of the situation by having the Mars Rover deliver the ball to the plate instead. The Mars Rover travels incredibly slowly and the entire stadium audience booed him.
The scene was shot at Angels Stadium in Anaheim, Calif. on Sunday, September 14 during the team’s last pre-playoff homestretch.
