First Hairathon Brings 7th Annual Pink Campaigns to New Heights at Spa Pechanga

More than 200 ponytails or 224 feet of hair collected in 2018

TEMECULA, Calif. — (August 16, 2019) – Long hair and big hearts are wanted this October at Spa Pechanga. The 7th Annual Mane Campaign at Spa Pechanga heats up with the spa’s first ever Hairathon. The Hairathon will be a morning of back-to-back haircuts and fun in hopes of collecting heaping amounts of hair for breast cancer patients. It happens on Thursday, October 24, from 9 – 11 a.m. on the Pechanga Even Lawn. Free haircuts for men, women and children will be offered for those eager to donate at least eight inches of hair. Haircuts will also be given throughout the entire month in the new Spa Pechanga, a stand-alone, luxury two-story salon and spa.

The mane campaign coincides with October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Donated tresses are sent to a nonprofit organization called Hair We Share. Hair We Share provides free real-hair wigs to eligible men, women and children with breast cancer and other medical hair loss conditions. The free haircuts and styles are provided Monday through Thursday by appointment starting Tuesday, October 1, through Thursday, October 31. To donate hair, make an appointment by calling (951) 770-8501.

“Our team is committed to this campaign every year and it has touched each and every one of us. We’ve seen so much love, tears and strength from the donors and from breast cancer patients through our programs and because of that, we want to make this year’s campaign even better,” said Samantha Mansell, Spa Pechanga Manager. “My hope is by adding Spa Pechanga’s first-ever Hairathon, we’ll be able to bring the community together with a mass haircut, collecting the most ponytails from the campaign to date and showing these fighters our support.”

In October, Spa Pechanga will also support the cause by offering pink hair extensions. With each extension purchased and applied at Spa Pechanga a portion will be donated to Hair We Share as a dedication to a loved one affected by breast cancer. Guests can also join in on the fun for Pink FriYays. Spa Pechanga will extend a 10 percent off discount to guests who wear pink on their Friday service in October. Don’t miss the pink accents throughout the spa with pink cuisine and décor.

In its seventh year, more than 500 ponytails have been collected. It takes five to six ponytails to make one real-hair wig. Last year alone, 224 feet of hair was collected making it the most successful year to date. The length of the hair is 10 times taller than a giraffe.

The side effects of breast cancer treatment, especially hair loss, can be devastating to a woman’s psyche. The Mane Campaign and Hairathon encourages men, women and children who can donate eight or more inches of naturally colored (not colored or bleached) hair. Gray hair is now accepted.

For more than a decade, Pechanga Resort Casino has been a major supporter of the Susan G. Komen Foundation in its region. Since 2011, resort/casino team members have donated more than $350,000 to the fight against breast cancer and toward raising awareness. The Centers for Disease Control show breast cancer is the most common cancer among American women affecting one in eight. The organization statistics show more than 200,000 women get breast cancer and more than 40,000 women die from the disease each year. Hair loss, one of the most common side effects of cancer treatment, can be especially traumatic for a woman fighting cancer.

Donated hair must not be permanently dyed and must be at least eight inches. To make an appointment at Spa Pechanga, call (951) 770-8501. Appointments for hair donations and styles are based on availability. Guests may also drop off ponytails to Spa Pechanga.

Spa Pechanga is open Monday – Sunday from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. For more information, visit Pechanga.com/indulge/spa.
