— June 21 is International Yoga Day. Studies Show Vets Can Be Comforted through Yoga & Meditation —

TEMECULA, Calif. – (May 6, 2019) – From child’s pose to mantras, yoga and meditation promote healthfulness and mindfulness in a myriad of ways. Pechanga Resort Casino hosts a free community yoga and meditation series in honor of International Yoga Day on Friday, June 21. In its second year, four well-known Temecula yoga and meditation instructors will take to their mats to lead four free classes available to the public.

The complimentary yoga and meditation classes are open to all ages on the new Event Lawn at Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula, Calif. during the following times:

  • 9 – 10 a.m.: All levels yoga (Teacher: Ashley Fiala, Temecula Yoga Collective)
  • 10:15 – 10:45 a.m.: Guided meditation (Teacher: Bautista Spears, Temecula Yoga Collective)
  • 12:15 – 12:45 p.m.: Guided meditation (Teacher: TBA)
  • 1 – 2 p.m.: All levels hot yoga (Teacher: D’Andre Clayton, Hot Yoga Healthy You)

The event is free, but donation-based with the option to give any amount to the featured charity. This year, 100-percent of the donations will benefit a program through Give Back Yoga Foundation that helps U.S. veterans cope with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

According to Give Back Yoga Foundation, one in three U.S. service members previously deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan are coping with PTSD or another stress-related disorder. Organization statistics also show veterans account for one out of five suicides.

The Mindful Yoga Therapy for Veterans program comforts veterans and their families by helping them find a calm and steady body and mind through yoga, meditation, breath work, yoga nidra, and meditation.

Pechanga is a major supporter of U.S. veterans and first responders. In addition to International Yoga Day, Pechanga launched a program to hire 10 veterans and/or first responders and their prescribed service dogs to work in the security department. Two out of the 10 positions are currently filled. Pechanga also hosts blood drives benefiting patients at Veterans Affairs hospitals and clinics.

Note: Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to check in. We encourage you to bring your own yoga mat. Spa Pechanga mats can be borrowed on a first-come, first-served basis. No prior registration is necessary to attend the event, however we encourage you to join the Facebook event group for updates, parking information and to let us know you’ll be there.
