So Cal Kids Give Up Halloween Candy to Support U.S. Troops and Veterans

TEMECULA, Calif. (December 9, 2019) – Twenty-two pounds of fun-size candy bars, lollipops, delicious chocolates, and other sweet Halloween treats will soon be sent to U.S. troops overseas and military veterans thanks to very generous children in southern California. Each child who donated a portion of his or her hard-earned Halloween candy was awarded a free golf lesson at Journey at Pechanga at Pechanga Resort Casino.

Each child who brought in a bucket, bag or pillowcase full of candy between Halloween and November 17 received a free golf lesson valued at $40. Donations were sent to Operation Gratitude which makes and sends care packages to U.S. troops stationed overseas and at bases around the country. Now in its fourth year, the annual Candy for Golf program was started by PGA coach and Journey at Pechanga’s Director of Instruction, Randy Chang, in an effort to teach kids the importance of Veterans Day, how to live a healthy lifestyle, and perhaps most importantly, how to share with others. Children received time outdoors and introduction to a sport they may want to continue while parents had the satisfaction of not having pounds of sweets hanging around the house for months following Halloween.

This was Journey at Pechanga’s fourth year hosting Candy for Golf. More than 147 pounds of candy to date have been collected and shared with our country’s service men and women thanks to the initiative.

Journey at Pechanga offers several unique programs through the onsite Tiny Tees and Journey Golf Academy. Instructors are able to give golfers of all ages and skill levels a new-found love and bring out skills they didn’t realize they possessed.
